Colts quarterback Peyton Manning reportedly underwent surgery on his neck for the second time in the past 15 months. Manning told the Indianapolis Star that he had the minimally invasive procedure on Monday to address a disk-related issue in his neck and expects a quick recovery. He also had surgery in March 2010 to relieve pain in his neck caused by a pinched nerve. In February, the Colts …

New Jersey Devils left wing Zach Parise practiced again Tuesday without pain in his right knee, five months after surgery. He had a rigorous 90-minute workout and skated freely with the Devils’ third line. He’s practiced just three times since he was cleared to skate last month. He’s not sure when he’ll return to the ice after sitting out since Nov.

Surgery is NOT the answer for back pain. Orthopedists, through no fault of their own, are operating, literally, on a flawed premise. Successful surgery for low back pain is the exception and not the rule. They are selling people blue sky. And who would have surgery if their doctor sounded less than confident in the diagnosis? Do your own personal survey of those who have had surgery. Are they their old selves again? Look at chronic back pain blogs on the internet. Many people are having multiple procedures done to them, and continue to suffer immensely. Patients are so brainwashed into thinking a disc is pinching a nerve, the most minimal improvement is seen as success, and well, what more can you expect? You feel you are permanently flawed. Disc theory has been engrained in us for generations. I was raised on it, and used to believe in it myself. How else to explain radiating pain, or chronic pain that fails to resolve with conservative measures? Any radiating pain is given the catch all term “sciatica”. It’s automatic. It’s how we’re taught. I used to do it myself. It is not recognized that muscles can cause radiating pain, or nerve symptoms. As Dr Sarno has observed, there is no apparent spasm. And he’s right, it is not apparent. If it’s in the muscles, why doesn’t massage work? What is being taught in massage schools does not work on tough cases, and in some situations makes people worse. Sometimes you can get away with what I consider over pressing forms of massage …

David began to experience weakness in his legs, over a period of 2-3 weeks it progressed to the point that he was having trouble just walking across the room. He went to his primary care physician and David was referred to other Doctors. The other Doctors were able to get David back on his feet but he still had pain and limitations. David had been very active his entire life. And now that he was retired he wanted to spend his time pursuing athletic endeavors and now he could not. David was very despondent, as he had done some interesting athletic things such as riding his bike across the US, competed in triathlons, and has run every LA Marathon since it started. David said it was a very sad time for him. His Doctor referred him to Dr. Hamada. David said, It was a wonderful day, Ill never forget it because I went there thinking my problem was not severe enough to warrant an actual back surgery, and Dr. Hamada said we can fix you up, we can give you your life back, we can address this in a way youll be very very surprised at the improvement you can attain with out a lot of post operative recovery time going by. David thought that back surgery should only be considered as the last possible option. Dr. Hamada explained that he had spinal stenosis and that there is a devise that can be implanted to prevent the vertebra from pressing on the nerve and it was called the X-STOP®. Dr. Hamada said that in some cases the X-STOP® alone would be enough but in other cases there may be …

The group’s frontman will need eight weeks to recover from the back procedure, postponing June 6-7 dates in Anaheim. The singer had been in severe pain, with paralysis in his lower leg. Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that U2 singer Bono’s back gave out last week. Just look at what’s been riding on it since the band launched its 360° Tour last year.
